Austin Hughes

Austin Theodore Samuel Hughes , 95, went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2021.  He was born September 20, 1925 in Tredegar, Wales to the late Frederick and Edith Hughes . Austin had grown up working in the coal mines as a blacksmith. At age 22 he immigrated to the U.S., and worked at a ranch in Idaho. Austin then moved to Akron, Ohio and met and married his wife, Carol . He became a U.S. Citizen and had worked for 34 years for the Ohio Brass Company. Austin retired from Spiral International at age 78 where he worked as a Heat Treater. For a number of years, he belonged to the Akron Masonic Lodge. Being an only child, he was very close to Carol’s family, and the family that he produced.

Austin was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Carol .  He is survived by his sons, David ( Susan ) Hughes, Eric ( Fran ) Hughes ; daughters, Andrea ( Steve ) Bucher , Heidi ( Steve ) Henry ; grandchildren, Stephanie ( Joel ) Pritchett , Zachary ( Liz ) Hughes , Nathanael ( Lindsey ) Bucher , Amber Bucher , Ryan ( Brenna ) Hughes , Megan ( Ryan ) Colby , Joshua Henry , and 4 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Bacher Moore Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd., Akron, Ohio 44319 on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 12 – 1 p.m., where services will be held 1 p.m., with Rev. Lynn Shertzer officiating.  Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
