Sylvia Barath

Sylvia Jean Barath , 83, the best wife, mom and grandma, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Sept. 13, 2021.
Sylvia was born in Gilmore County, WV to the late Oscar and Corinda Barnette . She was a graduate of Burnsville High School Class of 1956, attended Bob Jones University, and worked in the Firestone Bank. She was a faithful member of The Chapel where she taught Sunday School.  She loved scrapbooking, interior design, eating out on the boat, was a fabulous cook and a competitive Scrabble player.  When Donald retired in 1991, they moved to Houghton Lake, MI and lived part time there for 28 wonderful years.

Along with her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Barath ; sisters, Vonda (Bunt) Kuhl , and Joanna Carson ; brothers, Jimmy and Carl Barnette .  She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Donald Barath ; son, Larry (Julie) Barath ; daughter, Debbie Barath ; grandson, Brett Kovach ; sister, Betty (Richard) Moss ; and many other loving family and friends.

Funeral Service will be 5:00 pm, Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021 at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home (Portage Lakes), 3326 Manchester Road, Akron, OH 44319. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Sylvia's final resting place will be Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

Jean was a wonderful, kind, caring, sometimes goofy, AMAZING person and Mother-in-law. She will be missed dearly. I'm a much better person and am blessed beyond belief, for having been part of her family for so long. I love you Jean
