Alice Mae (Berry) Dyer, 98-1/2, passed from this life into the arms of her Savior on October 17, 2022, where she was reunited with her husband of 63 years, Bob Dyer, and her daughter, Susan (Dyer) Slavens.
When asked what she wanted to be remembered for most, Alice said, "That I loved the Lord with all my heart, soul and spirit. And that I loved my family."
Alice's legacy spans 5 generations of survivors: Daughter Doris Huddleston of Texas; Son-in-law John Slavens of Hudson; Grandchildren Jennifer Huddleston-King and Johnathon Huddleston of Texas, Benjamin and Wesley Slavens of Hudson; Great-grandchildren, Abigail and Rylan Soto, Josephine, Jesse, Jacob and Johanna Huddleston of Texas, Alice, Lucas and Samuel Slavens of Hudson; Great-great granddaughter Karmyn Soto; and special nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and her church family.
Alice was born in Akron on March 12,1924 as the youngest child of John and Della Berry. She was preceded in death by her sister and three brothers.
A graduate of Central High School, Alice's first job was working on the assembly line at the original Dum-Dum factory on South Street. At age 18, she was hired by Goodyear Aircraft as "Rosie the Riveter." While there, she met another riveter and the love of her life, Bob Dyer. Six weeks later Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps to serve in World War II; Alice waited 3-1/2 years for him to return and they were married in 1945. Together, they raised two daughters and built their life in Firestone Park.
Every Spring, Alice enjoyed planting and tending her garden. She especially prized her tomatoes, taking great care to grow the biggest and best-tasting varieties. She was grateful to be able to live in the family home and care for herself until her 98th birthday.
Every morning, Alice could be found reading her Bible. She was a lifelong member of Riverside Alliance Church (formerly Brown Street Christian Missionary Alliance), where she was once voted "Mother of the Year" by the congregation. She was involved in many women's groups and service projects over the years. But, Alice best demonstrated her love for Jesus by loving the people around her -- through innumerable prayers and hand-written cards, encouraging words, smiles, gifts and overflowing gratitude for anything done on her behalf. She was truly one in a million.
Friends may call 10:00 -11:00 am on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd., Akron, OH 44319. Memorial service at 11:00 am, with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Beulah Beach Camp, a Christian Missionary Alliance ministry. Alice’s family made many memories here.
