Allegonda Elisabeth Grob

Allegonda Elisabeth Grob (“Liesje”), loving wife, Moeder and Oma, passed away on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, at the age of 76.

Allegonda was born March 31, 1948, in Bussum, Netherlands, to the late Rudolph and Antje VanderGoot.

In addition to extended family and lifelong friends, she is survived by her son, Aaron Grob and partner “Kimmy Cakes” Wendt; daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Adam Shindler; grandson, Aiden Grob; and Golden Retriever, Bella.

She lived in Holland and Indonesia before immigrating to the US at the age of 5. Her elementary years began in New Jersey where her father oversaw the grounds of the prestigious Doris Duke Estate. Her family enjoyed living there, surrounded by lush gardens and animals. In highschool she placed third in the Ms Somerset County 1966 pageant. She worked as a Paralegal in Washington D.C. before moving to San Francisco, where she met her husband, Leo. On a cross country road trip the couple made a quick stop at the Little White Chapel in Reno to get married. She settled in Portage Lakes, Ohio and raised her family, two children and a forever rotating haven of animals. She was an amazing hostess and took full advantage of every opportunity to celebrate special occasions, birthdays, or sometimes just because it was nice weather.

Later in life she became Oma to a beautiful grandson. How she beamed with pride when they were together. She advocated fiercely for the safety and preservation of the PLX mute swans, a cause her family will carry on. Her life was spent putting others before herself, even if only a visit down by the lake. She dedicated over a decade to the fight against multiple sclerosis, providing daily care to her sister who suffered from it. She loved the ocean, traveling, gladiolus, martinis and karaoke. She was an incredibly creative, patient and loving mother. She was a beautiful, thoughtful and generous friend and always found the best in others.

Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home, on Saturday, May 25th.
