Angelo DeVitis, a beloved figure in the Akron community and co-founder of DeVitis Italian Market, has passed away at the age of 92. Angelo's impact on the local community and his dedication to providing quality Italian products will forever be remembered.
Born on April 28, 1931, in Akron, Ohio, Angelo was the son of Frank DeVitis and Angeline (Tisci) Magenau. He grew up alongside his brother Vincent DeVitis and was blessed with a close-knit family that nurtured his passion for food and business.
Throughout his life, Angelo displayed an unparalleled work ethic and a true love for his craft. Alongside his wife, Janet, Angelo and his father opened DeVitis Italian Market, a cornerstone of Akron's culinary landscape. Through their commitment to sourcing the finest ingredients and delivering exceptional service, they built a reputation that extended far beyond the city limits.
Angelo's warm personality and genuine care for others left an indelible mark on all who crossed paths with him. His humility and kindness endeared him to countless friends, acquaintances, and customers alike. He was known for going above and beyond to ensure every customer experienced the best of what the Italian culture had to offer.
In addition to being a successful entrepreneur, Angelo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind cherished memories with his loving wife of 73 years, Janet DeVitis; children, Linda (Jim) Percell, Robert (Angela) DeVitis, David (Beth) DeVitis, Daniel (Kiera) DeVitis, Laura (Andrew Fath) DeVitis, and Anthony (Kathleen) DeVitis. Angelo adored spending time with his grandchildren, Amanda (Brandon), Nicholas (JoEllen), Francesco (Carly), Giuseppe (Natalie), Vincenzo (Allison), Gina, Sophia, Giannis, Briana (Zachary), Evelyn (Jeff), and Clark (Breanna). His great-grandchildren, Alana, Calvin, Landon, Luke, Leo, Ella, Angelo, Cordelia, Fiora, Vittoria, Mia, Olivia, Zachary, Bryson, and Elsie fulfilled his life with joy and happiness.
Angelo's legacy will continue to live on through his family, who have inherited his strong sense of community and entrepreneurial spirit. His dedication to hard work, integrity, and kindness will inspire generations to come.

The DeVitis family invites friends and well-wishers to gather for visitation at the Hennessy-Bagnoli-Moore Funeral Home located at 936 North Main Street Akron, OH 44310 (corner of N. Main and Mildred Ave.) on February 11, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Angelo's life will be held on February 12, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church located at 83 Mosser Place Akron, OH 44310. The Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., preceding the graveside service at Northlawn Memorial Gardens located at 4724 State Rd, Peninsula, OH 44264. In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, 83 Mosser Place Akron, OH 44310.
Angelo DeVitis will forever be remembered as a pillar of the Akron community-a man whose passion for food and devotion to family touched the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
