WELL, IT’S JUST US NOW
Louise has gone ahead to visit the ones who passed before her. This is where she longed to be. Perhaps the most Christ-like person any of us will ever know. Absolutely the most accepting and the most forgiving.
Grandma was one who lived a (self-proclaimed) wonderful and grace-filled life. She provided peace and care to anyone she was acquainted. There is no one she has ever met that has not liked her, appreciated her or respected her. As a farm girl, Louise was a depression survivalist, who all her life instilled and spread strong economic values to any she could. She was intolerant of waste.
Louise was born in Union Grove, Minnesota April 9, 1930, to Norwegian immigrant parents. She was the fourth of six kids. (3 sisters, 2 brothers). Louise was the last to pass, growing up with thorough Christian training and solid moral values. A little advanced, she skipped the second grade. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1943. She also held strong political opinions.
Grandma was a patriot and veteran. in 1948, prompted by a recruiting poster in her local post office, she joined the Woman’s Army Corp (WAC) and became private first class. She was stationed at the Presidio, San Francisco, CA. It was there Louise met and married Darrel Dodd of Akron, OH. This is also where her two children were born. Louise and Darrel were married sixty years.
The family moved to her beloved Portage Lakes in the summer of 1959, growing up in the land of ten thousand lakes, her dream was to live on the water. She often said, “Look what God has given me”. She became a member of Hope Lutheran Church in 1962. She loved her church and sewing circle. By 1976 after her children graduated from high school, she was motivated to return to school whereupon she became an LPN. Louise worked at Manor Care Nursing Home in Barberton, OH, for over twenty years. She gave so much of herself and many times was named employee of the month and on one occasion was named employee of the year.
After retirement, Louise spent many years attending hundreds of sporting events (football, basketball, soccer and track. As many as she could. It was her greatest fulfillment and was proud cheering on all her family. At one point in time, she remarkably attended a high school basketball game where three grandsons were on the court together. She was never prouder. She often said and recently wrote, “Life has been good.”
Funeral Service will be 12:00 pm, Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home (Norton), 3250 Greenwich Road, Norton, Ohio 44203. Visitation will be Thursday, July 13, 2023, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at the Funeral Home (Norton).
