Barbara Irene Onspaugh

Barbara Irene Onspaugh, 84, peacefully went to be with Jesus and her late husband of 61 years, Clyde, on February 18, 2022 surrounded by her family.  She was born on October 1, 1937, in Akron, OH to the late Glen and Juanita Clark (Boggs) and lived in Akron her entire life.

She was a Physical Therapy Assistant at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital for over 30 years.  Her kindness, compassion and care for others showed daily in her work.  Prior to this position, she was an amazing stay-at-home Mother and Wife.

Barbara loved her family fiercely.  She was a devoted, loving, and selfless wife for 61 years.  She always put her husband first and took care of and spoiled him rotten. She stood by her man through thick and thin.  She also was a Mom who gave every ounce of herself to her children. “Mama, you were like a ‘superhero’. You continually juggled countless demands and never complained.  You sacrificed so much of your own life so we could live our best lives. We all tried to live up to your standards, and we know you were our greatest cheerleader.  Even in our darkest moments, you were in our corner encouraging and guiding us to the right path.  We thank you, our precious Mama, for always loving us unconditionally and proudly.”

A common theme we continually heard about was her smile…bright and infectious.  She always had a sunny disposition, even though her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.  She loved and served the Lord and faithfully attended Faith United Methodist church in Akron where she was a Sunday School teacher until it closed.  She then attended Chapel of Prayer Baptist Church where she enjoyed Sunday School class and visiting with the many people who cared for and loved her.

Barbara was an amazing artist, seamstress, and loved to create magnificent ceramic pieces.  She shared the beauty of her work with everyone.  We all have treasures she made which we will forever cherish.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers Glen (Sonny), James, and Jack Clark and her sister, Patricia Onspaugh.

She is survived by her children: son, Jeff (Sue) Onspaugh; daughters, Debbie (Dee Dee) Eller, Sherrie (Bob) Weber, and Kelly (Mike) Wood; grandchildren, Tim (Jen) Onspaugh, Shannon “Shay” (Carlos) DeMarino, Lisa (Michael) Wright, Laura (Danny) Atkinson, Kaylan Rice (Ty Mazzei), Gunnar Wood (Ivy Young), and Dane (Makayla) Rice; great-grandchildren, Justin and Alissa Onspaugh, Cara Inman, Los and Tony DeMarino, Ensleigh, Everleigh and Ellington Wright, Blake and Kylee Atkinson, and Braelynn Callie Rice; great-great-grandchildren, Julianna and Joanna Inman, Lyza Onspaugh, and many other loving family and friends.

A special thank you to our sister, Debbie for taking such good care of Mama and allowing her to be in her own home these past 4 years.  Debbie thanks Mom for the adventures and says it was her honor and a blessing to be her caregiver.

We would also like to thank Summa Hospice, especially Nurse Christie (Super Nurse)! She was amazing with Mom and we thank her for her compassionate and loving care.

It’s not goodbye Mama…it’s see you later.
