Betty J. Grandy

Betty J. Grandy, 90, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022. Betty was born and raised in Logan, Ohio on Wednesday, June 10, 1931, to the late Kermit and Mildred (Keister) Ringhiser and raised on a farm. She would always talk about the farm and how she had to milk the cows before going to school.

Betty retired from the University of Akron after 27 years. She was a 50 plus year member of the Eastern Star Legacy Chapter in North Canton and was the Deputy Grand Matron in 2003. She was also a past Worthy Matron alongside her husband Roy who was a Worthy Patron at the time. She held offices and did a lot of traveling, which she loved to do.

Betty was a 60-year member of the Community Church of Portage Lakes and has always been active. She was head of the Primary Department for 25 years, worked in the church office part time for 20 plus years, and was on the committee that started Encore Senior Group, she remained on that committee until her death. She also Started the Widows Group and every Sunday after church they went to lunch. She looked forward to that every week.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Grandy; sister, Peggy Aurand; brothers, Paul and Jon Ringhiser; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Lena Grandy.  She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Angelo) Ginella; grandchildren, Carrie (Keith) Cline and Nicholas (Kori) Calderone; great-grandson, Caden Calderone; sisters-in-law, Linda and Janet Ringhiser; and many loving family and friends.

Funeral Service will be Friday, 11:00 am at Community Church of Portage Lakes, 3260 Cormany Rd., Akron, Ohio 44319.  Visitation will be Thursday, April 7, 2022, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319 where an Eastern Star service will be held at 5:00, and Friday, April 8, 2022, 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the church. Betty's final resting place will be Greensburg Cemetery.
