Betty Louise (Weaver) Manda

Betty Louise (Weaver) Manda went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2021. As one who loved the thrill of Christmas and lots of gifts it seems only fitting that this Christmas is a home going rather than a time when she would not even be able to enjoy her earthly gifts.

Betty was the second of 7 children born to Thelma (Shultz) and Cloyd Weaver. She was born in Saxton, PA on Jan. 14, 1929. After moving around a bit, she spent most of her adult life in the Portage Lakes area of Akron, Ohio. For the past several years she resided at The Arbors of Fairlawn. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff for their loving care offered to ‘Miss Betty’ in the red shoes that was always “finer than frog hair split four ways.”

As a member of the former Akron Baptist Temple, she enjoyed spending her Sundays worshipping alongside her Aunt Florence and Uncle Orbie Hess and Cousin Larry.
Travel and shopping for bargains topped her list of fun things to do! She especially enjoyed traveling with her husband or her sisters and her granddaughter, Laura. If the sun was shining, that is where she wanted to be. She spent many years working with her husband at Manda’s Fishing Tackle where countless friendships were formed with customers and associates of the business. She was also very enterprising making things like Christmas wreath pins which she sold to everyone who came in the door! Everyone loved Betty!

Betty is survived by two daughters, Joy Manda and Bettyo (Tom) Andrews; 3 grandchildren, Laura (Josh) Witham, Evan (Jessica) Andrews, and Neal Andrews; and a great grandson; as well as two younger sisters, Sandy (Ron) Randles and Gladys Ciarrocca; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; son Robert E. Lee Manda; siblings Phyllis (George) Detwiler, Deanna (Jim) Allison, John “Jack” Weaver and Ken Weaver; and brother-in-law Pete Ciarrocca.

As Jack and Betty are reunited, you can be sure Heaven is brimming with many jokes and harmonizing on old songs.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, 2:00 pm, January 4, 2022,at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home (Portage Lakes), 3326 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. Visitation will be ONE HOUR PRIOR to service time at the Funeral Home. Betty's final resting place will be Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Some of the most impactful memories I have of my youth centered solidly around my Grandmother. I looked forward to spending my summers with her and having new adventures beyond my wildest imagination. Her favorite perfume was Tresor and to this day when I smell it, I see her as clearly as if she were here. She was, as I call her, the Original Diva and when my husband met her for the first time, he said "NOW I see where you get it from". Many who knew her were blessed, but I consider myself beyond favored to have been her granddaughter. Her memory will live on through me as I seek to show everyone I meet a little piece of my grandmother and her unique flair for life, Music, and all that sparkled.

I always had fun when I was around her. I have so many great memories of her. The vacation I went on with her, the bait store, her and uncle jack always singing in parking lots and stuff. Rip Aunt betty❤

She probably waited on me a time or two at Mandas when I would come in with deposit pop bottles and buy line, sinkers and hooks and some lemon heads. I bought my first spinning real there from money earned on my paper route. Great memories. Rest in peace Betty Manda.

Joy and Bettyo,
Hazel and I want to share our loving thoughts and prayers with you at this special time. Betty has been a special part of my life ever since I was born. From my earliest recollections, My favorite memories concerned my "cousins", and trips to visit the Weavers in Saxton, Pennsylvania. I had the opportunity to have Betty a part of my life for 46 years until we moved to N.C. I know she enjoyed music, and we still sing a song that says, "Heaven's Sounding Sweeter all the Time". Because of health issues, we will not be able to be at the memorial service. We will pray for the family and we will visit the grave at Greenlawn.
