Cecil Vernon Fix

Cecil Vernon Fix of Barberton Ohio went home to be with the Lord January 22, 2023, at the age of 99, after a short illness. His wife and sweetheart of 65 years, Carrie Lunsford Fix, preceded him in death in 2012.  Cecil was born Aug. 3, 1923 in Raphine, VA to the late Ruth McManama Fix and Clarence Fix. He was a long-time member of the Akron Baptist Temple where he and Carrie raised their daughters, Patricia Labbe (Bill, dec.), Janice Ortega, Beverly Koeberle (Ralph, dec.), Dianne Tharp (Lloyd) and Kimberly Fix (Rodrigo Mancilla).   Along with his daughters, Cecil is survived by his grandchildren, Cecilia Ortega (Juan Villanueva), Loyd Tharp (Min), Stephanie Tharp, Wayne Tharp (Janelle) and great grandchildren, Emiliano Villanueva, Clara Tharp and Eleanor Tharp as well as many beloved McManama/Jones 2nd cousins from his dear Uncle Homer and Aunt Eva McManama and nephews, Jeff Fix (Kathy) and Scott Newcomb.

Cecil was a proud American and World War II Navy veteran who served in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.  He took refrigeration training in Akron on the GI Bill. He worked 35 years at Lawson’s Milk Co. where he retired and then worked at Cornwell Quality Tools for several years before beginning a 15 year “2nd career” as a Barberton Hospital Volunteer who was known for his reliability and dedication. 

Along with his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his younger siblings, twin brothers Glenn and Dallas and Catherine Newcomb.

The Fix sisters would also like to acknowledge the outstanding caregivers at Barberton Brookdale Assisted Living where Cecil resided the past 6 years. Cecil was well-loved and well cared for by the nurses, aids, kitchen staff, activities specialist, maintenance  and management.  Without their love and care we would not have had our father these last few years.

Friends may call on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. Service will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Ernie Kemppel Officiating. Private internment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
