Charles T Crangle, Attorney, 71, in Washington DC died in his sleep Friday August 1, 2008. Charles was born June 26, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine, Father, Irving, and brother, Jack. He is survived by 3 siblings Tom, Marikay, and Mike. While married to Margaret (Recker) they had 5 children, Patty, Ann, Tom, Susan and Daniel. He was not married at the time of his death. Charles has 10 grandchildren Jeremy, Sam, Joe, Mattie, Samantha, Sarah, Jacob, Ana, Jonah, and Eann, and 2 great-grandchildren Audrey and Grace. He had many nieces, nephews and cousins. Charles had many interests and a long distinguished career. He was working for the American Maritime Officers as Director of Congressional & Legislative Affairs when he died. Prior to that, he was Counsel for the Congressional Maritime Caucus serving on the Merchant Marine & Fisheries chaired by Walter B. Jones. He was the Director of Public Safety / Personnel Director for the City of Barberton, Ohio, and before that was in Private Practice concentrating in the areas of municipal and family law. He was the Director of Industrial & Community Development for the city of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He taught Social Sciences at Central High School in Akron, Ohio, and was a member of the US Teacher Corps. Charles was an Able Bodied Seaman serving on various ships on the Great Lakes - notably, he was on a ship on lake Superior when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. For several years, he was the host of the ‘Irish American Radio Program'. This show ran for 5 years and was a 90-minute ethnic broadcast on WAUP, broadcast from the University of Akron. His daughter Susan often acted as co-host, though other family members and friends joined him from time to time. Charles received a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Liberal Arts; a Master of Arts from the College of Education; and a Juris Doctor from the School of Law from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. He was admitted to the Bar and licensed to practice law in 1974. He loved politics and ran for City Council but was always ready to help friends with their elections. He was a proud member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild; a voracious reader; a life-long union member personally and professionally; was supportive in the continuing education of his children and grand children; and loved to put as many miles on his bicycle as he could, as often as he could. He was a member of Saint Dominic's parish in Washington DC. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and co-‘Workers'. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Friday August 8 at St. Vincent's church. Viewing will be held Thursday August 7 from 7 to 9pm at HENNESSY-BAGNOLI FUNERAL HOME, 936 N. MAIN ST., AKRON.
