Cheryl Lee Brecht

Cheryl Lee (Bortz) Brecht, 69, of Wadsworth, Ohio, died surrounded by her family on December 20, 2018. Cheryl was born and raised in her beloved Conneaut, Ohio, and graduated from Conneaut High School in 1967. While in Conneaut, Cheryl took great pride in being a nurse at Brown Memorial, an LPN instructor with Ashtabula County ABLE, and serving as a nurse for Conneaut High School. She was also a room mother, Girl Scout leader, band camp nurse, drill team instructor, and so much more. While in Wadsworth, Cheryl became a proficient gardener, hobby farmer, and shepherdess. She was also active in community organizations such as Good Neighbors Inc. and The Newcomer’s Club in Wadsworth.  

She is welcomed in heaven by her parents, Charles and Jennie Bortz; her brother, Clarence Bortz; and her sister, Janice Kalil. She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Robert Brecht; her brother and sister-in law, Charles and Charla Bortz; brother-in-law, Paul Kalil; sister-in-law, Jane Bortz; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Cheryl was mother to Julie, Chris and Jody (Simpson), Kevin, Sarah, and Sean. She was Yaya to 8 grandchildren; Rachel, Abby, Nick, Joseph, Jude, Joy, Heaven and Saint.

We invite you to join us in celebrating her life with calling hours from 5-8 pm on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at Bacher Funeral Home, 3250 Greenwich Rd., Norton, Ohio 44203. There will be an additional viewing from 9:30-10:30 am on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018 at Hope United Methodist Church, 2650 Cory Ave., Akron, Ohio 44314. The funeral service will be at 10:30 am with a lunch and fellowship to follow. The family would ask in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Good Neighbors charity in Akron where mom volunteered, or The Suit for School charity started by her grandchildren to clothe fellow students in the Conneaut Schools. We appreciate everyone’s support.
