Christine M. Yakubowski (Pezzopane)
Chris, 79, of Akron, passed away on November 7, 2021 at the Justin T. Rodgers Hospice Center on Ridgewood Rd. She was born to Fred and Mary Pezzopane of the Village of Adena, Ohio, and graduated from Adena HS in 1959. Chris married her high school sweetheart, Tom, on Jan. 25, 1962 and graduated from the Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing later that year, the same hospital where she was born, December 8, 1941.
After moving to Akron in 1966 she furthered her education at Akron U and St. Joseph’s College. Chris worked in the ER, various surgical floors, ICU, CCU, oncology, heart catheterization and wound care clinic. She worked at all three local hospital campuses during her career. She truly loved and enjoyed her chosen profession of care giving.
Chris had many hobbies in her life including: reading, antiquing, gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking and baking. She loved making and giving quilts for the family and friends. She volunteered at St. Sebastian and St. Vincent Parishes. She had been a Eucharistic Minister and a member of The Altar Society. Most of all Chris loved being at home and taking care of her family.
Chris loved the Holidays, birthdays, and special family events. She loved baking and cooking and sharing her goodies with family and friends. Christmas cookies, nut rolls, Paczki for Fat Tuesday, homemade ravioli, and so many other Italian and Polish foods were traditional and done because she loved everyone. The “Quilt” lady made quilts for everyone in the family and took great pride in giving her quilts to other friends too. She was so kind, caring, helpful, loving, and considerate of others that passing on these valuable gifts indicated her love for others. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
Christine was a two time cancer survivor and would say “Each Day Is A Miracle.”
Preceded in death by her son Christopher, father Fred, mother/stepfather, Mary Bonomo/William Poland and sister-in-law, Patricia/Jack Headley. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Tom, Brother-in-law Eugene (Shirley) Yakubowski of Titusville, FL, Children: Mark (Gail), Vince (Lisa), Patrick and Beth (John Shumaker). Grandchildren: Katie (Zach), Amy (Cody), Tom (Jessica) and Anna; Matt (Jessica) and Tim; Andrew, Emily and Michael Shumaker; great granddaughter Addison (Amy & Cody).
We cannot express enough thanks to the staff at The Justice T. Rodgers Hospice Center for the compassion and care we received during Chris’s stay there. These are truly some of the finest people ever, and to Dr. Matthew Taylor for his special care over the years. God bless you all.
