Daniel Avramovich

Daniel Avramovich, 99, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023.

Daniel was born June 17, 1924 to the late Steve and Zora (Matejch) Avramovich in Pancevo, Serbia. The family migrated to the United States, became US citizens and Daniel resided most of his adult life in the Akron area. Dan was a member of the US Army during World War II and was honorably discharged after the war. He worked most of his career at Firestone and settled into Cuyahoga Falls, where he and his wife Elaine raised their family. He often worked 2 jobs to support his family and is well known in the Falls by many superior athletes as their first and best coach in baseball and basketball. He also was an avid golfer later in life, was known as a “ringer” by many and loved to play for a kielbasa and beer.

In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his brother, the famous Lewie Lens, and his loving wives Elaine and Irene and is survived by his sister Mildred Roach. He will be sadly missed by his sons Steve (Donna), Danny (Joann), Ray (Monica) and daughter Judy (Jack) and many other family and friends. From one comes many and Dan so loved his 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Nothing made Dan happier than seeing their smiling faces, “cutting-up” with them, watching them excel at their respective activities and breaking bread with them --- preferably a Kielbasa and milk.

Dan was a tough, hard working, kind, loving, man. As a trained machinist, he never thought there was a job he couldn’t tackle. He and his brother Lewie were very similar in character to the “Wild and Crazy Boys” on SNL. Dan loved God and country, faithfully followed God’s ways and would do anything to defend our freedom and liberty. Although he was only high school educated, he was wise beyond his years – something he called “common head”. He demonstrated these skills as head of the local machinist union at Firestone, was a pain in the rear to management, but was well respected by them. As a coach, he nurtured the kids he coached with the same strong, positive, fun-loving characteristics that he possessed --traits his grandchildren and great-grandchildren now are honored to possess. Dan’s spirit and kind soul will forever be with us.
