Danny R. Hinton

Danny Ray Hinton was born on March 12, 1947, to William and Illean Hinton at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland while his father was serving in the Army. After moving back to Akron, he attended Akron schools and Kenmore High School. In September 1965, he joined the United States Navy where he served aboard the John W. Thomasson DD 760 for five and a half years. Danny loved being in the Navy and was very proud of his military service. He was sent to Bethesda Naval Hospital where he stayed for thirteen months after an injury.

He was discharged and married and had two children, Danny Ray and Misty Irrean. Several years later, he married Laurie Rex on November 5, 1976, at the Akron Baptist Temple. His daughter, Danielle Renee, was born on April 21, 1977, and Danny considered her his “gift from God.”

Danny’s career included working in machine shops and various other endeavors. He was always energetic and a very hard worker. His passion was working in the yard. Danny was a member of First Baptist Church in Barberton and attended every time he was well enough. He loved going to church  there.

Danny was blessed with three wonderful grandchildren. Lauren Renee Satina in 2004, Brandon Paul Satina in 2007, and Eric Anthony Satina in 2011. They were the loves of his life. He spent great amounts of time with them and they always had a good time. A perfect day with the grandkids was spent in the pool, riding bikes, or building forts in the living room. He also spent a lot of time with his faithful pal, his dog, Biscuit. He wanted everyone to know that he was “a good grandpa.”

Danny was predeceased by his parents, William and Illean Hinton; infant son, Danny Ray; mother-in-law, Wanda Rex; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Rex and Michael Hague.

Danny leaves behind his wife of 47 1/2 years, Laurie; daughter, Misty Chestnut; and grandchildren, Andrew and Stacie; daughter, Danielle Satina and Will Griffith; and grandchildren, Lauren, Brandon, and Eric Satina; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Larry Strickland; father and mother-in-law, Duane and Donna Rex; sisters-in-law, Dena Stone and Linda Hague; brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Jessie Rex; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves his lifelong and best friend Don Swan.

Special thanks to Dr. Freeland Oliverio, D.O. for taking such good care of him and always sending Danny to the right specialists. Our most heartfelt thanks to Dr. Andrew J. Haas, Jr., M.D. for helping him through all of his cancer treatments and to his wonderful office staff Laura, Denise, Amanda, Jennifer, and Angela. Danny was very happy that he was cancer-free at the end of his life. We are most grateful to Pastor Mike Prebynski for all the visits, calls, cards, encouragement, and prayers.
