Diane M. Smith

Diane M. Smith, 72, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 1, 2018.  She was born May 20, 1946 in Akron to Warren and Mary McLaughlin.  She worked for Akron General Medical Center and was a member of Community Church of Portage Lakes where she had served as a deaconess for three years and in the Children’s Ministry.                                                    

Diane was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary McLaughlin; sister, Betty Reitz; and brothers-in-law, Edward Doyle and Donald Smith.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard “Dick”; son, Michael (Cynthia) Smith; daughter, Melissa (Shawn) Filipowicz; brothers, George (Linda) McLaughlin and David McLaughlin; sisters, Joan (James) Bonner, Patricia Kirschner (Cynthia Sherlock), and  Mary Doyle;  sisters-in-law, Carolyn McLaughlin and Beverly Smith; brother-in-law, Robert Reitz; grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Swain, David (Chanda) Ladines, Daniel (Kerri) Ladines, and Vincent Laurita; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home 3326 Manchester Rd. on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m., where services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m., Dr. Michael Rybka officiating.  Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Church of Portage Lakes in memory of  Diane.
