Emblem

Dinon Ralph (Chuck) Boyer was born October 26, 1931 in Pittsfield, MA, the oldest child of parents Ralph and Alma (Henness) Boyer. He finished his race and graduated to heaven on February 26, 2023 in North Canton, OH at 91 years old, just a few miles from New Franklin (Manchester), OH, where he had lived for the previous 57 years.  Not surprisingly, he passed from this life to the next in his sleep – in a quiet, unassuming way – just the way he had lived his life.  He was a man of simple yet sincere faith in Jesus and knew that the next breath after his last on this earth would be in heaven with the Author and Finisher of his faith.

During his childhood, Dinon lived in Nahant, MA until age 10 and then Wausau, WI, before settling into his childhood home of Wisconsin Rapids, WI in 1946. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in August 1953 and was assigned to Fort Sam Houston, TX, earning National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals before his honorable discharge as a PFC in June 1955.

He met Elizabeth (Liz) Marshall at a church conference in 1953 and they were married on Aug. 27, 1955, at Mattapan Baptist Church, Milton, MA, a union that lasted 54 years until Liz passed May 16, 2010 in Akron, OH.

Dinon earned an MBA from the University of Wisconsin in 1956, after which he accepted a position with BF Goodrich in Akron, where he worked for 36 years in labor management and as a computer programmer until his retirement in 1993.  He was elected a city councilman in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, before being transferred to Troy, OH, where the family lived for 5 years before their final move to Manchester.

The family attended The Chapel (Akron) for years, after which Dinon & Elizabeth began attending Grace Bible Church (New Franklin), where Dinon later met his second wife, Loraine.

He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Loraine (Jivan), who was by his side until his final breath.  They were married on July 16, 2011 at Grace Bible Church.  In addition, he is survived by brother Darryl of Milwaukee, WI, sister Glenda (Bob) of Seattle, WA, daughter Diann Lozoya (David) of Dallas, TX, daughter Sharon James of Austintown, OH, son Todd (Lisa) of New Albany, OH, and son Scott (Susan) of Westerville, OH.  He was forever proud of his eight grandchildren – Matthew (Jordan), Andrew (Teresita), Brian, Adrien, Heather (Ido), Natalie (John), Erick (Cassie), and Jake, in addition to his two great-granddaughters:  McKenzie and Rosanna.  He also loved and was loved by members of Loraine’s family:  Warren (Karen) Morrow, Lee (William) Sweeney, Steve (Sharon) Morrow, Rose Mary Chadwell, and Lynn Morrow.

As a boy, Dinon loved camping and participated in Boy Scouts. While living in Troy, he and Liz enjoyed ice dancing as members of the Troy Skating Club. He was a meticulous keeper of hand-written records and practitioner of a number of life-long hobbies, including coin collecting, stamp collecting, button collecting, and his greatest passion – model railroading – a craft he practiced well into retirement, which earned him official recognition from the National Model Railroading Association and the respect and awe of fellow railroad hobbyists.

Dinon was a competitive game player, and loved playing board and card games with his family. He seldom lost, but on those rare occasions when he was bested (usually accompanied with mock outrage and a twinkle in his eye) it was cause for great celebration. Family disputes were often settled with a game of euchre or a round of horsengoggle. He had a famous sweet tooth, and a deep appreciation for Guiseppe’s Pizza – an appreciation he indulged often.

Having lived in the same neighborhood for more than 50 years, Chuck was blessed with wonderful neighbors who provided him friendship and kindness over many years – most notably Rob & Jen Mitzel, Dennis Sesock, Eric & Samantha Croft, and Casey & Anita Stack.

The family has scheduled a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Grace Bible Church, 5781 Manchester Rd., New Franklin, OH 44319.  Guests are invited to greet the family beginning at 10 AM prior to the service, which will begin at 11 AM.  All guests are welcome to remain after the service for an informal lunch, featuring a menu of Dinon’s favorite foods.  A private burial is planned for a later date at Manchester Cemetery, New Franklin, OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in the name of Dinon Boyer to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, 4687 Wyoga Lake Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44224.
