Our father, hero and patriarch, Donald Earl Bolender, 86, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022. He was born on Saturday, January 25, 1936 in Akron, Ohio to the late Russell and Pamelia (Kennedy) Bolender. Donald was the youngest of seven. After graduating from Garfield High School he enlisted in the US Marine Corps., serving proudly for 4 years. He attended the University of Akron, and graduated from Kent State University with a BS in education. He was then employed by the Akron Public Schools for several years teaching Industrial Arts. Donald later began to build custom homes, showcasing his carpentry and woodworking skills. He then served the City of Norton as the Superintendent of Building and Zoning for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, horses, dogs, woodcarving and anything outdoors. Most of all, Donald loved his wife and family.
Donald was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Scheufler, Ruth Campano, Bob Scheufler, Howard Bolender, and Frank Bolender. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; sons, Donald (Chris) Bolender, John (Sue) Bolender; daughter, Julie (Mike) Droppleman; grandchildren, Taylor, Russell (Sarah), Joshua, Dallas, John Jr.; great-grandchildren, Elliot, Benson, Linlea; sister, Jewell (William) Martin; and many other loving family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Prince of Peace Parish, 1263 Shannon Ave., Barberton, Ohio from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery directly following.
