Donald H. Schafer Sr.
Donald Herbert Schafer Sr. was born December 8, 1930 to the late Herbert Frank Schafer and Minnie Bell (Doesburg) Schafer. He made his home in Canton, Ohio.
Don went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the age of 93 due to complications of dementia. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and care givers of The Gables of Green for their excellent and compassionate care.
Don proudly served in the Naval Air Reserve. He was Vice President and Co-owner of Loomis Electric Company in Akron where he retired in 2001. At that time, he and best friend Rev. Stan Hill, established Christian Laymen’s Council, a non-profit organization that helped pastors, evangelists and small churches across the country.
Don was a kind, generous man who loved the Lord above all. He accepted the Lord as his personal savior as a 10-year-old boy and was faithful in serving Him his entire life.
Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathy; and brother, Robert.
He is survived by his loving wife, Chris; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Herbert Jr. (Linda); and Terrence Frank (Barbie); 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Don was truly a kind and gentle man, always putting others first, preferring the background rather than the limelight, and will be sorely missed!
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Open Door Baptist Church, 7688 Market Ave. N. Canton, OH 44721. Calling hours will be from 10-11 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., Pastor Bob Butterfield officiating. Private interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Open Door Baptist Church Missions Fund or Bearing Precious Seed, 1369 Woodville Pike, Milford, OH 45150 in memory of Don Schafer.
