Edwin Charles Dalton

Edwin Charles Dalton passed away April 27, 2023 at the age of 85 from complications of heart disease in Canton, Ohio.  Born in Salem, Ohio, he graduated from Buchtel High School and lived most of his life between West Akron and Green Township/City of Green.

Ed's first job was working for his grandfather's company, L & B (Luco & Butcher) Construction, when he was 16 years old in the Akron area. At the age of 21 he joined the Army National Guard and served for 8 years in the 107th Armored Cavalry Regiment as a Staff Sergeant. After Army boot camp he worked for 11 months as a layout artist at the M. O'Neil Company where his mother was also an artist. After several years back at L & B Construction as an equipment operator where he ran bulldozers and backhoes, he worked briefly for a machine shop in Akron, then was hired at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He began as a machinist, then as a designer where he designed the sidewalls of tires at Goodyear's Corporate Headquarters. He retired after 32.5 years in 2002. He is often quoted as saying "I never worked a job I didn't enjoy."

His talents included playing an exceptional game of poker, designing and building his own home in Fairlawn Heights, and figuring anything out mechanically. He was a loving and supportive father and husband and had a mischievous streak and a twinkle in his eye.

He is preceded in death by his son, Brian Mitchell Dalton (1963-1981), his parents, Louise (Butcher) and Charles Dalton, his wife Sandra, and his brother, Ronald Dalton.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Kay McAllister; step-son, David Dalton (Chris), daughter, Suzanne Dalton CAPT US Navy (Ret), and grandson, Sean Dalton.

Per Ed's wishes no services will be held.
