Eva Sosa (Beeba) passed away peacefully on September 5, 2023 after a very long journey with Alzheimer’s disease, at the age of 89. While the disease slowly took away her functions, her character and essence stayed with her until the end. 
Eva was one of eleven siblings. Family meant everything to her. She lived and worked for most of her life in Uruguay and eventually moved to the United States, to be close to her only son Alvaro DeCola and his family. After her move, she resided in Granada Hills, California. While in California, she was determined to learn English and took classes for a couple of years. A testament of her character was the numerous friends from different countries that she made. On Saturdays, these mini United Nations conclaves would meet for ‘extended tea-time hours’ for the pure joy of camaraderie. 
One of her biggest joys was becoming a grandmother. Though already starting to have difficulties with her condition, she spent countless hours playing with her grandchildren. She loved music, dancing, traveling, and cooking. It was not unusual to find her making amazing “empanadas” and “alfajores” to share with her family, and of course occasionally sharing a little glass of wine (vinito). 
Eva is survived by her son Alvaro, daughter in law Shawna, and grandchildren Sofía, Mateo, and Brando, and she will always be in our hearts.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, in Akron Ohio, on Saturday September 16, 2023, at 10:00 am.

Querida viejita, siempre fuiste, y siempre serás el norte de mi brújula.

Evita, como muchos te decían, te marchaste luego de una gran lucha con ese mal que te borró los recuerdos, pero que nunca pudo vencer tu espíritu de lucha. Ese espíritu de lucha que demostraste toda tu vida, superando las miles de vicisitudes y escollos que se presentaron en el camino. Así y todo, siempre me diste todo lo mejor que pudiste con todo tu amor y una ternura que todos quienes te conocieron pudieron sentir.

Te me fuiste y ya no puedo verte, ni abrazarte, ni darte un beso, pero siempre vas a estar en mi corazón. Sé que habrá una estrella más en el cielo por el resto de las noches que me queden por delante. Lo único que me consuela es saber que vas a estar en compañía de tus queridísimos hermanos y hermanas que se fueron antes que vos. En esa travesía que hiciste en tu vida, desde el Yerbalito, pasando por Melo, haciendo tu vida en Montevideo, y durante el último capítulo en Estados Unidos, siempre dejaste una huella en todos quienes te conocieron. Te prometo que voy a hacer lo todo lo posible por transmitir tus enseñanzas y perpetuar tu espíritu de lucha a tus queridos nietos Sofía, Mateo, y Brando.

Aunque me despedí de vos en muchas ocasiones, se me hace tremendamente difícil enfrentarme a la realidad de tu ausencia. Pero más allá de este profundo dolor, sé que siempre vas a estar en todos nosotros y tu esencia perdurará en nuestros corazones. Un gran sentimiento de gratitud es el que siempre tendré por vos. Gracias viejita.

Siempre serás mi ejemplo y solo quiero que sepas cuanto te quiero. Que descanses mamá.
