Evelyn Marie Garnes

Evelyn Marie Garnes (Benchoff, Neugebauer) passed away on January 6, 2019.  Mom was born July 14, 1930 in Rittman to Guy E. and Mary (Killough) Benchoff. She graduated from Doylestown High School in the class of 1948. She retired as a Customer Service Manager at Wright Tool & Forge in Barberton in 1994 after 27 years of service.

Mom had the biggest heart and each of her children, grandchildren, family and friends knew that mom loved them unconditionally. She always said “it’s not the things you have that count in life, but the people.” Mom enjoyed working in her yard, golfing with her buddies at Loyal Oak Golf Course, league bowling for years, playing euchre every chance she had, being with family, and let us not forget – a good shot of blackberry brandy in 7Up every now and then. Mom’s faith in God and knowing that she is now with him, and free from the constraints of Alzheimer’s, makes letting her go a little easier.

Surviving are her children, Debra Klein, Vernon (Paula) Neugebauer, Ed Neugebauer, Ann (Bob) Burks; and daughter from another mother, Cheryl Withnell; as well as eight-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition, she leaves brother, Karl (Katie) Benchoff of Wooster; and sisters, Joy Neugebauer of Westminster, CA, and Marilyn (Ken) Zimmerly of Wooster.

She was preceded in death by husband, Joe Garnes (2005); and former husband and father to her four children, Verne Neugebauer (1985); as well as five brothers and two sisters.

Mom we will always love you and miss you, but know that we will see you again someday.  Thank you for your love, guidance, and support through the years.  You are the best!

A very special thank you goes out to all the staff members at Arden Courts of Bath for the special love and care you showed our mom and entire family. We could not have survived this journey without you. Additionally, thank you to the nurses and aides from Crossroads Hospice.
