Florence E. Hakenson

Florence E. Hakenson, 91, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023. She was born on Friday, May 22, 1931 in Akron, Ohio to the late Erdman and Alice (Read) Blum. 

Florence attended Kenmore High School, and along with her husband, were proud graduates of the class of 1949. Florence and Harry stayed active with the class reunion planning committee for many years and recently attended their class reunion together in 2022. After getting married, Florence was a devoted homemaker and was involved in all of the activities of her children making sure she attended all sporting and school events. In her spare time she was an avid bowler with her sister Betty. In 1975, the family moved to the Wadsworth area going from the big city, to living on a farm. After moving to Wadsworth, she began a career as a bus driver for the Wadsworth School system. Her career spanned 20 years and she was always known to have a bus story to tell anyone that would listen. She also was involved with the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary group for many years. In her retirement years she and Harry traveled the 50 states on a motorcycle visiting many friends and family members. They were known to leave for a visit and not return home until weeks later because of extending the trip to cover additional visits in multiple states. Mom was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and will be missed by all!

Florence was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Wolfe and Betty Moore; son-in-law, Bill Dye Jr.; and granddaughter, Kim. 

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Harry; children, Gary (Jennifer) Andrus, Pamela Dye; Craig (Michele) Hakenson, and Harry Hakenson, Jr.; grandchildren, Tracy Dye, Kathy (Jeff) Russo, Gary Andrus, Cole Hakenson, and Ashlyn Hakenson; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Nick, and Kimmy;  and many other loving family and friends.
     
The family will greet friends at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3250 Greenwich Rd., Norton, OH 44203 on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. Private graveside services will be held. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to mealsonwheelsmedinacounty.org, in memory of Florence Hakenson.
