Harland "Bud" Nine

Harland “Bud” Wesley Nine, 91, went to be home with the Lord on Wednesday, April 27. 

Bud joins his son Rob in Heaven, leaving behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Joyce; his sons, Rick (Vicki) Buster and Randy Nine; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Nine; grandchildren, Joshua (Renee) Nine, Lindsay (Daniel) Anderson, Elijah (Melody) Nine, Craig Nine, Micah (Elizabeth) Nine; and seven great-grandchildren.

Bud graduated from South High School in 1949 and worked at a dry cleaning shop until joining the Navy in 1951.  He served on the USS Essex as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War until 1955.  After the Navy, Bud worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber before starting the Nine Insurance Agency where he worked with his son Rob until his retirement in 1998.  Each of Bud and Rob’s clients were a friend and his service to those he worked with reflected his love and respect for them. 

Bud’s life was characterized by his love for his family and the Lord.  He and Joyce were active members of the Akron Baptist Temple and later at the Community Church of Portage Lakes.  Bud gladly served wherever was needed, from driving the church bus, ushering, teaching Sunday school, to maintaining the buildings and grounds. 

Another great love of Bud’s was belonging to the Y.K. Rod Club, “The Farm”, in Guernsey County.  Bud would disappear for the entire weekend to work on the trailer, mow, spend time hiking, fishing, or having cookouts with his family.  He passed down his love of the outdoors and hard work to all his family members.

Later in life, Bud found great joy in being a grandfather to his five grandchildren. He will be remembered as a trusting driver’s ed instructor, enthusiastic Euchre partner or dominoes competitor, and a trusted mentor to each of his grandchildren. Bud could always be counted on when they needed a birdhouse for the backyard, a catapult for a school project, or another inch taken off the bottom of their stool at the dinner table as they grew. The great love he showed to each of his grandchildren was evident as they all gathered by his bedside a few days before his passing, telling stories and remembering a life well lived.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 5th, 2022 at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd, Akron, OH 44319 at 6 PM.

Bud has requested no flowers, but that donations be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his memory.
