Harvey Reed Russell

Harvey Russell, 85, passed away on December 20, 2018. He was born in Akron and lived in the Portage Lakes area most of his life. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War; three of which were in the western U.S. and one in North Africa. He retired from the Akron Police Department with 30 years of service as a Det. Lieutenant. He authored and produced “A Policeman’s Prayer” (http://bit.ly/PolicemansPrayer).

He was a member of the F.O.P. Lodge #7 and American Legion Post 566. He enjoyed flying ultralight aircraft and was a member of the U.S. Ultralight Association and Experimental Aircraft Association. In the early 1960s, he owned Akron Recording Studio and Jade Records as a side-line to his police career. During retirement, he enjoyed traveling the country with Jane (his wife of more than 60 years) and their two dogs, Annie and Twinkie.

Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alta Russell; son Gregg Russell; brother, Gene; sister, Ruth Mattey; brothers-in-law, Andrew Mattey, Bill Savely, Bob Anderson, and Harry Cowx; sisters-in-law, Jane C. Russell and Rose Anderson.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Linda, Michael (Patti) Russell, and Julie (Savino) Russell; grandsons, Josh and Michael; sister, Mary Savely (San Diego); and sister-in-law, June Cowx (Wadsworth).

Per Harvey’s request, private services are being held for his family, officiated by the Police Chaplain. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
