Helen T. DeShon, 95, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022. Helen was born in Queens, New York on Thursday, Jan. 6, 1927 to the late Michael and Christine (Ball) Beiner and lived in the Barberton and Coventry Twp. communities over 30 years. She served the Lord as a Sister in the Marianite Order living in a convent in Louisiana from 1940 to 1955. She received her Bachelor’s degree and became a teacher. She was a faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and part of their women of Faith group.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Gene W DeShon; and son, Phillip Oesau. She is survived by her son, Thomas (Eileen) Gustafson; daughter, Diane (Jay Schweitzer) Oesau; grandchildren, Maude Helen, Guillaume, and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Rogue, and Joseph; sisters, Miriam Smith, and Christine Cook; brother, John Byner; and many other loving family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 am - 10:30 am at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home (Portage Lakes), 3326 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319. Helen's final resting place will be Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
