James C Darwen, 66, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 16, 2023 after a brief illness of pancreatic cancer. He was born February 16, 1957 to the late James and Sarah (Rephan) Darwen. Jim was a 1975 graduate of Kenmore High School and attended Malone College before proudly serving in the US Army from 1979 to 1985 as a Specialist 4th class. He worked at Acme Fresh Market in Montrose from 2001 to 2015. He attended many different churches throughout his lifetime and enjoyed the fellowship of other believers as well as reading God’s Word.
Jim loved fishing, reading, and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed many types of music and would sing and snap along joyfully! He had a large music collection. Jim was purposeful in giving words of encouragement to those he loved and cared for. He faithfully helped to care for his sister Virginia, during her 4-year battle with lymphoma. He could create a conversation with anyone at any time, his conversation will be missed!
Jim set a beautiful example of living out 1 Peter 5:7, “....casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”, especially during these last few months. It was evident to anyone who talked with Jim, that he had faith in knowing that once he was absent from his body, he would be in the presence of The Lord. That gave him the Perfect Peace that transcends all understanding and he finished his race well!
Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Thomas and stepmother, Janice Darwen. He is survived by his sister, Kathy Billet of Ventura, CA; brother-in-law, Mark Thomas; niece, Sara (Ryan) Corley; great nieces, Katy and Aurora; and great nephew Levi all of Akron, OH.
The family will greet friends at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd, Akron, Ohio 44319 on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 1 pm, with a memorial service to follow at 2 pm. The Rev. Robert W Tauscher Jr. will provide hope and encouragement. Interment, with military honors, will take place Monday, July 10, 2023 at 2:15 pm at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Police escort will promptly leave from Bacher-Moore 3326 Manchester Rd, at 1:30 pm.
