James M. Lindsey

James M. Lindsey Surrounded by his family, Jim passed away at Akron City Hospital on November 25, 2006 from complications of leukemia. He was born on September 6, 1939 in Akron, Ohio, the dear son of Harry E. and Virginia (Brooks) Dahlman. Jim graduated from Akron North High School in 1957 and received his B. S. in Education at The University of Akron on June 3, 1963 He began his teaching career at Springfield High School and retired after thirty years from Cleveland Heights High School in November, 1992. Jim dearly loved his family and the great stories we all shared around the holiday tables. He especially enjoyed spending early Christmas mornings with his nephew and two nieces, sharing the excitement through their young, wonder-filled eyes. During his retirement years, Jim was a dedicated and loyal community volunteer. He gave countless hours helping at Pegasus Farm and Quail Hollow State Park, assisting at the Greater Akron Humane Society, delivering food for Akron's Mobile Meals program, and driving patients for the American Red Cross. Working as an "Edzoocator" for the Akron Zoological Park, Jim especially enjoyed teaching children, senior citizens, and church groups about the Rainbow Boa Constrictor, Ferret, and the Barn Owl. Jim is survived by his brother, John A. (Jane) Lindsey, nephew John E. (Karin) Lindsey and their son, Carter James, who was named after Jim, niece Kathleen A. (Martin) Molloy and their son, Nathan Edward, and Jennifer L. (Michael) Ankrom. Jim's special cousins are Ruth (Roger) Tower, Mary Lou (Robert) Kaczmarski, William (Sandy) Saltsman, Karen Saltsman, Diane Carroll, and Kris (Tom) Stanfield along with many loving relatives and dear North Hill neighbors and friends. As his volunteer service shows, Jim had a special fondness for animals, especially his dog, Oscar. Our family is especially grateful for the loving, compassionate, and tender care given to Jim by the nursing staff at Akron City Hospital's 7 East floor. Jim greatly appreciated their unfailing kindness during these past six weeks of his hospital stay. We also sincerely appreciate the efforts of all of Jim's doctors at Summa and the Summit Oncology group, especially Dr. Payne and Dr. Koenig. You all made this difficult journey less painful because of the loving care you gave to Jim and us. The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. David Halaiko on Wednesday, November 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the HENNESSY-BAGNOLI FUNERAL HOME, 936 NORTH MAIN STREET, AKRON. Calling hours will be 5 to 8 on Tuesday, November 28. Donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, The Northern Ohio Chapter, 902 Westpoint Parkway, Suite 300, Cleveland OH 44145.
