Joan Gail Hayes

Joan G. Hayes, 80, passed away peacefully June 4, 2023.  

She was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania on January 30, 1943.  She moved to Akron and married her husband of 62 years, Wilbur (Red).  Joan was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Jones, stepfather, Calvin Jones, brother Richard Basile, granddaughter BJ Hayes, and lifelong friend Charlene Callahan.  She is survived by her beloved husband Wilbur; children Connie (Ben) Morrison, Scott (Cindy) Hayes, and Shawn Hayes; grandchildren Jeremy, Joshua, Eric, Tami, Jacob, Mason, Brandon, Brooke, Rachel, Shianne, and Madison; and great-grandchildren Giovanni, Nora Jean, and Kayson.    

Joan was a long-time member of the Shoreline Community Church in Akron, she enjoyed crocheting, making baby blankets for each of her grandchildren and trips to the casino with her husband Red, cousin Walt and Patty, and will always be older than Nancy.  She enjoyed watching the Voice and discussing it daily with her good friend Mary.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren will always be her “babies” no matter how old they are, she loved them all dearly.  Joan was a kind and loving person and will be missed by all who knew her.  

Family and friends may call on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Road, Akron, OH 44319.  Pastor Dr. Scott Campbell will conduct the funeral service on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home.
