It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of John "Jay" Sullivan on November 7, 2023, surrounded by his family. A beloved patriarch, cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a true friend to many.
Jay was born on May 7, 1937 in Akron, Ohio. He attended St. Vincent High School where he met his wife Grace. He served in the United States Air Force, then returned to Ohio to raise their 8 children: John, Beth, Teresa Peterson (Tony Mancuso), Vince (Coleen), Maria Carson (Frank), Julie Davis (Rick), Rachel Dewell (Tim), and Grace Dexter (Matt). Jay was also blessed with 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his 5 siblings, Mike Sullivan, Kathy Brennan (Bruce), Maureen Ullom (Dave), Paul Sullivan, and Mark Sullivan. Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Viola and Charles Sullivan; and grandson, Michael Sullivan.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2023, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Hennessy-Bagnoli-Moore Funeral Home, 936 N. Main St., Akron, OH 44310 (corner of N. Main St. and Mildred Ave.). Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 164 West Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44303 with Rev. Father Norman Douglas, Celebrant. John's final resting place will be Holy Cross Cemetery.
