Judy Kay Zuidema

Judy Kay Zuidema (Bowers), age 68, passed away October 3, 2020. She was born June 19, 1952. Judy grew up in Norton and graduated from Norton High School in 1970, where she was a majorette. Judy resided in Akron, where she raised her children and lived until the time of her death. Judy was a graduate of the Akron School of Practical Nursing in 1988. Judy worked as an LPN at Essex, formerly Colonial Gardens, in Tallmadge for 30 years.

Judy loved the ocean, Cedar Point, shopping, cooking, dining out, playing games, boating with her daughter Danielle’s family, and spending time watching her youngest grand-daughters, Payton and Riley. She loved to tell stories about the funny things they did or said. She was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Browns. Judy spent a lot of time with her son Jared. He was always willing to do anything she needed, such as taking her to the store and appointments, mowing her grass, or just dropping off anything she needed. She loved him dearly as well as her daughters. Judy loved her dogs Dustin, Baxter, Oliver and Wimpy and missed them terribly after they passed. Until her mother Pat’s death in 2011, Judy spent much of her time running errands, shopping, visiting family, and eating out with her. They were the best of friends.

Judy’s favorite times were the holidays with her family, especially Christmas, when she would host a Christmas Eve gathering every year. She absolutely loved decorating for Christmas, giving gifts, and making her Christmas menu. She made sure everyone had things they liked to eat. She was such a good cook and made everything from scratch. She was fun to be around and always made games fun with her competitive nature.

Judy is preceded in death by her mother and best friend Patricia Rollyson and her grandparents Corda and Roy Cooper. She is survived by her children, Jamie (Sean) Mumaw of Green, Danielle (Mark) Dennis of Uniontown/N. Canton, Jared (Danielle) Zuidema of Barberton; her grandchildren Zachary, Kaitlin, and Olivia Mumaw, Hayden and Ian Dennis, and Payton and Riley Zuidema; great grandchildren Ashton and Lucas Mumaw; and her sister Sandy Underation.

Special thanks to the ICU doctors and nurses at Summa Akron City Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic for all their kindness and care.

A Nurse’s Prayer:  “Give to my heart, oh Lord … compassion and understanding. Give to my hands skill and tenderness. Give to my ears the ability to listen. Give to my lips words of comfort. Give to me, Lord … strength for this selfless service and enable me to give hope to those I am called to serve.” 

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, 1:00 pm at Hennessy-Bagnoli-Moore Funeral Home, 936 North Main Street, Akron, Ohio 44310 (corner of N. Main St. and Mildred Ave.) with Pastor Don E. Bolich, Officiant.  Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm and Tuesday from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at Hennessy-Bagnoli-Moore Funeral Home.  Judy's final resting place will be Greenlawn Memorial Park. 

Due to Covid-19, we respectively request that those attending visitation and funeral services will practice social distancing and wear face masks.  If you are unable to attend or do not wish to attend, we understand and all love and prayers will be appreciated.
