Kelly Steffel

Kelly Steffel, 45 passed away January 18, 2008. Kelly was born in Salem and lived in Akron most of her life. She graduated from North High School in 1981 and attended the University of Akron. She graduated from the School of Court Reporting with her certification in Paralegal. Kelly served as a Bankruptcy Paralegal for O'Neil's Dept. Store, was a certified Diamondtologist, currently worked for Sterling, Inc. as a collections supervisor and was an organ donor. This was supposed to be her wedding year. God's response to Kelly's prayers came true by meeting William Labry Jr. (Will) whom she met 5 years ago and became engaged to on New Year's Eve 2005 and planned to marry this year. Kelly was clear that if motherhood was not an option she was content to know she could make a difference in a child's life. As a bonus, God provided instant motherhood in the form of Will's son, Anthony Labry. Anthony is now a junior at Ohio Dominican in Columbus. Kelly is preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Mildred Fleming who loved and cared for her as a newborn and we are certain they are waiting to receive her once again; grandparents Frederick and Margaret Steffel; aunts, Patty Etzweiler and Sandi Fleming and Helen Fleming; uncles, Brother Terry Steffel, SJ and Patrick Fleming. She is survived by her parents, David and Peggy Steffel; brother, Brian (Sharon) Steffel; nephews, Kevin and Kyle; niece, Kaylee; fianc, William; son Anthony; and many other loving family and friends. Kelly's family would like to thank the City of Green Paramedics that gave their all to save her and all of the doctors, nurses and staff in the emergency room at Akron General Hospital for their efforts and compassion. Will would like to extend a special thank-you to Sarah Wilson, Kelly's co-worker at Sterling, Inc. for introducing him to Kelly. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 11:00 am at St. Hedwig Church, 215 E. Glenwood Ave., Akron. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm at HENNESSY-BAGNOLI FUNERAL HOME, 936 N. MAIN ST., AKRON. Kelly's final resting place will be Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
