Lois L. Elwood

Lois Louise Vidale Elwood, 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 19, 2023. She died peacefully in Chattanooga where she had lived for the past 8 ½ years. Formerly, she was a longtime resident of Rootstown, Ohio where she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Norman Elwood and her infant son, Frank Jeffrey.

Lois was born on August 8, 1923 in Smithton, Pennsylvania to Frank and Margaret Vidale. She was sister and best friend to Norma Vidale and mother to 3 sons: Jeffrey, Dean (Martha) of Chattanooga, TN, and Brad (Deborah) of Greensburg, PA. Lois was grandmother to eight grandchildren, Barbara (Fritz) Schalmo; Laurie (Tim) Ritzema; Christopher and wife Megan Ave’Lallemant; Emily; Jennifer (Drake) D’Angelo; Sarah (Paul) Zontek; Tim (Gail) Elwood and Valerie (Brandon) Yuhouse; and “GiGi” to 12 great grandchildren.

Lois and Norman were longtime faithful members of Goss Memorial Church in Akron, Ohio where they were members of the King’s Herald Sunday School class. Lois helped in the Toddler Sunday School class for many years. For 45 years beginning in 1968, Lois enjoyed hosting a weekly ladies Bible study in her home. She was also a member of the Junior Tuesday Club of Ravenna, Ohio, the Rootstown Garden Club and the Ladies Birthday Club. She enjoyed traveling abroad with her sister Norma as well as gardening, canning, quilting and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Road, Akron, OH 44319 on May 6, 2023 at 2 PM with Fritz Schalmo officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Goss Memorial Church, 2247 11^th St. SW, Akron, OH 44314.
