AKRON-Maria (Nonna) Spano, 87, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, surrounded by her family. She was born September 11, 1921, in San Vito, Italy. She enjoyed cooking many Italian dishes for her family and tending to her wonderful garden full of vegetables. Her favorite thing to do was cook pasta every Sunday for her family using her own sauce that she made from the tomatoes in her garden. She was a very loving wife, sister, mother, nonna, and great grandmother and will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Maria is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Rinaldo, her parents, Marianna (Luciano) and Raffaele Gironda, sister Carmela and brother Frank Gironda. She is survived by; sons and daughter-in-laws, Pasquale of Akron, Ralph (Anne) of Suffield, Frank (Fran) of Springfield, Vito (Ann) of Hartville, and daughter and son-in-law, Rosanna (Bruce) Boveington of Brimfield; grandchildren, Rinaldo (Angela), Andrea, Ralph Jr. (Andrea), Maria, Roxann, Carmela, Erica, Elana, Nicole, Kristina, Angela, Vito Jr., Maria, Lauren, Brian, Taylor, and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Vito (Maria) Gironda of Tallmadge and Ralph (Maria) Gironda of Florida. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 25, at 9:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at from 4 to 8 pm at the HENNESSY-BAGNOLI FUNERAL HOME, 936 N. Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
