Mary Fiehn

Mary Fiehn , 89, passed away on July 17, 2021, at Pleasant View Health Care Center in Barberton, Ohio.  Born in Futok, Yugoslavia, to Josef and Julianna Reiter , Mary sailed to America on an Emigrantenschiff in 1952.  She made the trip without any family members to meet up with her future husband, John Fiehn . Mary and John were wed at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church that same year.  The happy couple lived in Florida as snowbirds during their golden years before returning to Ohio in 2016. Mary possessed many talents including baking, ceramic arts, and gardening.  Friends and family enjoyed her special Christmas cookies, poppyseed and nut rolls, tortes, strudel, and kifli rolls. Mary took pride in growing beautiful flowers and vegetable gardens and could make anything grow from a simple cutting.  Her lovely, tiered flower gardens once graced the cover of Better Homes and Gardens.  She also enjoyed playing the slot machines at the casinos and was the lucky winner on many occasions. Mary and John loved to sing and dance and were members of the German-American and Freiheit Clubs and various other German-American societies where they enjoyed the companionship of many friends over the years.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2016; son, Richard ; brother, Konrad Reiter ; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Reiter ; brothers-in-law, Joseph Fiehn and Nick Fiehn ; nephew, Frank Fiehn ; and niece, Linda Reiter .  She is survived by sisters-in-law, Bev Fiehn and Elizabeth Fiehn , sons, John (Flo) Fiehn and Michael Fiehn (fiancé Hollie Thorla) ; grandchildren, Aaron Fiehn , Stacy (James) Efstathiou , and Olivia and Ava Fiehn ; great-grandchildren, Laura , Abigail , and Mary Jayne ; nephews, Bob (Justine) Fiehn and Joe (Becky) Reiter ; nieces, Ellie (Kevin) Carris and Debi (Bryan) Griffin ; and dear friend, Leni Schler .

The family extends special thanks to the staff at Greenview Assisted Living, Pleasant View Health Care Center, and Crossroads Hospice for their compassionate care of Mary over the last four years.
