Mary Constance Marino, 90, passed away peacefully on a sunny afternoon surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021.
Mary was born May 16, 1931, in Akron, Ohio to the late Simone and Edvige (Amicarelli) Smaldino and lived in the Akron area all her life. She was a faithful member of St. Anthony Parish and the Sons of Italy Lodge 685. She worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co and in later years worked at St Thomas Hospital as a medical secretary. She spent countless hours volunteering at the Akron Children’s Home and the Akron Art Institute. She loved being a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family! Her daily advice was Love one another, Forgive one another, and Thank God for your many blessings. Her love was unconditional and her faith in God was immeasurable. She loved cooking exquisite Italian meals, being in her flower garden, and was a lover of fine fashion; always known for her elegance.
Along with her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Smaldino. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Anthony; children, Joanne (Chuck) Powers, Linda (Richard) Martorano, Gina (John) Hart, Marilyn Latine, Anthony (Lia) Marino, and Michael (Liz) Marino; grandchildren, Angelica (Marco) Catalano, Dr. Lisa (Dr. Brian) Sammon, Lauren Martorano, CAPT Jonathan S. Hart USAF, Mia Latine, Amelia and Gabriella Marino, and Kristina Deckert; great-grandchildren, Luca Catalano, and Jacob Sammon; sister, Teresa (Joseph) Latona; and many other loving family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 83 Mosser Place, Akron, Ohio 44310. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hennessy-Bagnoli-Moore Funeral Home, 936 N. Main St., Akron (corner of N. Main St. and Mildred Ave.). Mary's final resting place will be Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron, Ohio. If desired, remembrances can be made to St Anthony’s Church or School.
