Mary Elizabeth Purkey

Mary Elizabeth Purkey (Johnson) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 23, 2022 at the age of 93, just four days before her 94th birthday.

Mary was born in Elkins, West Virginia to Clyde Emory and Virginia Wolfe Johnson on Aug. 27, 1928, the youngest of six children.  She graduated from Davis-Elkins College in Elkins and received her teaching degree in elementary education.  She retired from the Barberton School System after many years of service.

Mary faithfully attended Norton Grace Church and taught Sunday School classes for many years - well into her late eighties.  Her pupils loved and adored her!

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband Bob, of 62 years and all of her siblings. She is survived by nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Friends and family may call at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3250 Greenwich Road, Norton, on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am.  Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Gregory officiating.  Entombment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Power Kids of Norton Grace Church, 3970 Cleveland-Massillon Road, Norton, OH 44203 in memory of Mary J. Purkey.
