Mary was born February 14, 1936 in Strongsville, Ohio to Frank and Florence Muraski (nee Daugherty) and passed away January 17, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Frank T. Muraski; daughter, Denise Marie Sklarek; and son, Michael K. Sklarek.
Mary attended Strongsville public schools and graduated from Lourdes Academy, Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Dyke and Spencerian College in Cleveland, Ohio and was certified in legal secretarial and accounting.
In 1956, she married Kenneth P. Sklarek of Lorain, Ohio where they lived for many years before moving closer to their family in Wadsworth and Akron. She is survived by her husband of 64 years; son, David J. (Joanne) Sklarek of Wadsworth; daughter-in-law, Joyce Sklarek Armstrong (Michael deceased) of Akron; grandsons, Jason (Emily), Todd (Jennifer), Ryan and Kevin; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Annabelle, Joseph, William, Levi and Silas.
Mary worked as a legal secretary and then in the plastic industry as an estimator and administrator assistant. She retired in 1989 to care for her daughter, Denise.
Mary loved all sports, especially the Cleveland professional teams. She loved to read and travel. She and Ken had a winter home in Florida and vacationed there for many years. Her biggest joys were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to see the ballgames of the grandsons and really moved closer to be able to attend them all.
Family and friends may call at Prince of Peace Church, 1263 Shannon Ave., Barberton, Ohio 44203 on Friday, January, 22, 2021 from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. memorial mass. Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, 350 Opportunity Parkway, Akron, OH 44307, in Mary Sklarek’s name.
For the safety of the family and other guests, masks must be worn.
