Nancy Lee Brinkley (Moeller) entered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, May 1, 2022, surrounded by her family. She passed away in her little house in Tarpon Springs, Florida which she dearly loved. Nancy was born in Akron, OH, September 16, 1926. She spent the last 16 years living in Tarpon Springs, Florida, but her true home was in her beloved Portage Lakes, Ohio where she lived most of her life. Nancy was 95 years old when she passed away.
Nancy retired from the U.S. Postal Service where she was one of Akron’s first female letter carriers. She walked her routes and was often greeted by homeowners with the words, “My goodness, it’s a lady mailman!” Nancy attended and was a member of the East Liberty Church of the Nazarene where she sang in the choir and was actively involved in church activities. Later in life she loved singing with the Betty Jane Singers (a group of women that sang at nursing homes and special events).
Nancy enjoyed all kinds of creative artistry. As a young woman she earned money for college by painting black and white photographs with oils to bring color to the pictures. She practiced the art of calligraphy as well. She loved painting with oils, water colors, and chalks and she was still painting into her early nineties.
During World War II, Nancy was in the Goodyear Aircraft Squadron, 2nd-1945 Class, where she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter.” In 1946 she married the love of her life Carl Lewis (Lou) Brinkley whom she held deeply in her heart until his passing in 1986.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters. She is survived by her four children, Robert L. Brinkley (Suzanne), Thomas L. Brinkley, Carolyn Rowan (Jeff) and Charles L. Brinkley (Denise). She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as nephews, nieces, and friends.
Nancy was a beautiful, loving mother and wife to her family. She had a generous heart and was a precious caregiver to many during the later years of her life.
A celebration of her life will be held on June 24, 2022 at the East Liberty Church of the Nazarene, 700 East Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Akron, OH 44319. Friends may call at 5 p.m. with services beginning at 6 p.m. Pastors Mike Hirschfelt and Joseph Frank will be officiating. A private burial will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
