Opal Lucas

Doylestown/Wadsworth - Opal (nee Bostic) Lucas, 94, earned her well-deserved wings for her flight to heaven in the early hours of March 29, 2021, with her four loving daughters standing by.  She missed the thirteenth anniversary of our dad’s death by a mere eight minutes.  Opal was born and raised in Charleston, WV, the youngest of a family of nine children born to Frank and Clara Bostic.  She and her pre-deceased husband, Jesse, raised a family of four daughters, beginning in Charleston, later to live in Barberton, Norton, Bath, a brief return to West Virginia, and ultimately returning to be with their daughters in Ohio while residing in Doylestown.

Opal was an immaculate homemaker, an accomplished seamstress and upholsterer, and while she didn’t much enjoy cooking, she loved baking and you could always count on a freshly baked sweet something-or-other in her kitchen any time you dropped by for a visit.  And, of course, a warm “coff of cuppie”.  She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, cultivating showcase gardens that were the envy of family, friends and neighbors.  Opal instilled in her daughters the importance of being respectful and kind to others, while not hesitating to stand up for ourselves in the face of adversity.  She was a selfless mom and taught us to be the same.  She also taught us the importance of making sure our windows look nice from the outside, because she just knew for sure that people judge you based on your windows.

Opal was a private and proud lady, and a fierce advocate for her daughters.  She was a member of Crossroads Assembly in Creston, and also enjoyed attending occasional services at Calvary Wesleyan Church in Barberton.  She and Jesse were known in church as being the best-dressed couple, always making sure their clothing matched, normally with dad’s tie matching her dress.

Opal was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, Jesse, and her two brothers and six sisters.  She is survived by her daughters Sharon (Cliff) of Norton, Jean (Greg) of Wadsworth, Pat (Tim) of Wadsworth, and Sue (Steve) of Doylestown.  She will be remembered, missed and deeply loved by her ten grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.  She also leaves numerous loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend our thanks to our later-acquired extended family at The Inn at CoalRidge, for your care, respect and love provided to our mom. It was evidenced by the endless parade of tear-stained faces stopping in over mom’s final days to say your goodbyes and share your favorite memories.  Your love was profound and will be forever appreciated.  Thanks also to Crossroads Hospice for your guidance and support in mom’s final days/hours.

Services for our mom will be held at Bacher Funeral Home, 3250 Greenwich Rd., Norton, on Friday, April 2, 2021, from 10 to 11 with 11AM service. Pastor Mike Boggs officiating.  Burial will follow at Ohio National Reserve Cemetery in Rittman, OH at 2 p.m., where she will be laid to rest with our dad.

We love you, mom.  Give daddy a big hug for us.  Take care of each other until we all meet again.
