Owen Lee White

Owen White, 91, a Korean War Army veteran, passed away February 3, 2022 after a brief illness. He was born May 2, 1930 in Glassport, PA to Lester and Pearl White. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, “Loie” (Lois Ann, his wife of 54 yrs); his son, Dale Owen; and his siblings, Stanton, Charles, Paul, Madeline and Betty.

He was a man of strong faith, and a long-time member of Riverside Alliance Church where he valued his job as the “door greeter”.   Anyone who knew Dad knew how important work was to him.  He worked for Akron Standard Meats for 35 years as a meat cutter.  When Akron Standard closed, Dad went to work for Acme on Manchester Rd in various capacities until finding his home in the Bakery Dept where he continued until his retirement in Oct. 2021.  Many thanks to his supervisor and great friend, Ashley Beltrano for supporting his desire to serve a purpose through his work.

Dad could never be found without his harmonica in his pocket.  He belonged to the Rubber City Harmonica Club and enjoyed his “gigs” entertaining at nursing homes until Covid shut down these activities.  He was thrilled to get together with his group this past summer and had a grand jam session with his buddies.

As with many men of his generation, there was almost nothing he couldn’t fix, build or jerry-rig.  He was a self-taught woodworker who made cherished pieces of furniture for his family.

He will be greatly missed by his son, Gary (Rondeen) White, daughter, Sharon (Rodney) Welty; grandsons, Ryan (Hilary) White and Randy (Erin) White; and his 4 great-grandchildren, Owen, Aubrey, Jackson and Charlie.

The family would like to give special mention to the staff of Heritage Crossing Assisted Living and Memory Care Center in Fairlawn, OH.  Owen felt blessed to be cared for by these sweet angels.

Due to Covid, the family has requested that all those attending visitation and the service to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Friends may call at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd., on Tuesday, February 8 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m., with services following, Rev Mark Smith officiating.

Private interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverside Alliance Church 2433 S. Main St., Akron, OH 44319 or to the Haven of Rest Ministries at havenofrest.org., in memory of Owen White.
