Steve "Frankie" Shimko, 87, passed away Nov. 24, 2009. Frank was born in Akron and lived in the area all his life. He was a paratrooper during World War II in the 82 Airborne and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber after 37 years of service. Frank is preceded in death by his wife Dessie Avalee Hill "Mickie"; parents, Paul and Rose (Vatko) Shimko; sons-in-law, Chuck Spitali and Donald Bixler. He is survived by daughters, Charlotte Spitali and Sherry Bixler; grandchildren, Michelle (Joe) Breiding; Vincent (Lisa) Spitali and Annie (Ryan) Spitali; great-grandchildren, Nina, Ellie, Gia, Kate, Brooke, Claire and Benjamin Charles; sister, Margie Richardson; and many other loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Precious Gift One gift, above all others God gives to us to treasure One that knows no time, no place And one gold cannot measure. The precious, poignant, tender gift Of Memory - that will keep Our dear ones ever in our hearts Although God gives them sleep. It brings back long remembered things A song, a word, a smile And our world's a better place, because We had them for awhile! A very special thank-you to the staff and caregivers with Heather Knoll and Harbor Light Hospice and Father Michael Williamson from St. Matthew Church for their very special care and compassion. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:00 am at St. Matthew Church, 2603 Benton Ave., Akron. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at HENNESSY-BAGNOLI FUNERAL HOME, 936 N. MAIN ST., AKRON. Steve's final resting place will be Hillside Memorial Park.
