Teddy Sworniowski, M. D.

Teddy Sworniowski, M.D., 86, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Teddy was born Friday, April 17, 1936 to the late John and Mary (Radlo) Sworniowski and lived in the Coventry Twp. area MOST/ALL of his life.

Teddy’s humble beginning was as the oldest of three boys born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to Polish immigrant farmers. His education began in a one room schoolhouse in Leamington, Ontario where English became his second language. This was the first time he set eyes on a globe and maps of the world which all would play into his lifelong wanderlust.

Teddy worked summers as a Customs Officer for the Canadian Immigration and Naturalization Service while putting himself through the University of Toronto. Upon graduating from medical school, he married his sweetheart, Josephine. After he and Josephine had three children, they settled in Coventry Township so he could start his private practice in Barberton, Ohio, going on to be a solo OB/GYN practitioner for almost the next 30 years.

Touching all 7 continents and countless countries became a favorite pastime of his. Earning a private pilot’s license enabled him to travel farther.

It would be nearly impossible to list all his accomplishments, accolades, and adventures. These things always associated with him: prolific learning and reading, classic euphemisms, delivering babies, gardening, travel, history, Canada, all things Polish, OBX, Detroit Tigers, Primos Deli, black coffee, well done steak, and soup piping hot with fresh cracked pepper. He missed the interactions and lasting bonds with all his patients after retiring.

There was never a dull moment or an idle time. He wore all of it completely out. His body and his mind. “Do not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” – Dylan Thomas

Burt Reynolds has left the building.

In addition to his parents, Teddy is preceded in death by his brother, Walter Sworniowski.  He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Josephine Sworniowski; daughters, Suzanne (Chris Straugheir) Basiora and Stephanie (Craig Gable) Sworniowski; son, Robert Sworniowski; grandchildren, Zoe (Ben), Xavier (Parris), and Sydney; great-grandson, Ronan; brother, John Sworniowski; and many other loving family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home (Portage Lakes).  Teddy's final resting place will be Lakewood Cemetery.
