SCIO, OH – Thomas Earl Easterling, 79, passed away February 25, 2022. He was born February 15, 1943, at his parents’ home in Norton, Ohio. He graduated from Norton High School in 1961 and lived in Norton until 1988. Tom worked at Goodyear Tire & Rubber in the Rim Plant for ten years, followed by a career in construction and concrete work with local companies and Easterling Brothers Concrete with his brother Scott.
Tom was preceded in death by parents, Howard & Eloise Easterling; brother & sister-in-law, Scott & Louise Easterling; sister-in-law, Betty Easterling; and brother-in-law, Basil Adkins. In 2016, Tom lost his partner, Nancy Blumenthaler too soon and had the privilege of caring for her through her illness.
Tom was a loving father and best friend to son, Barry Easterling; daughter, Wendy Easterling was her “Daddy’s little girl” no matter how old. Grandsons, Bryce Easterling and Brady Easterling were the greatest joy in Tom’s life and in every conversation remarked how wonderful it was to be their grandfather. Brothers, Richard Easterling (Betty), Joe Easterling (Almira); sister, Elaine Adkins (Basil) made up his and Scotti’s family and they shared an amazing and unbreakable bond, forged by their mother, that endures through all subsequent generations. Tom and Carol Wiland (Paul) were married in 1964 for 27 years and remained best friends until the end. Sister-in-law, Evelyn Unger (James) held a special place in Tom’s heart for always being a kind, welcoming and loving person in his life. Tom was welcomed into Nancy’s family with open arms by her daughter, Cherie Morris (Michael); and grandchildren, Cameron, Julia, Grayson, Annabelle and Sophia who remained in Tom’s heart always.
Tom absolutely adored being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews: Phillip Easterling (Lauri), Suzanne Raber (Chris), Jennifer Heller (Brian), Mark Easterling (Peggy), Jill Easterling, Paul Easterling (Emily), Vicki Griffin (Greg), Jeanette Brown (Dan), Kathy Adkins (Alex), Mitchell Unger (Amy), Katie Chipps (Eric), Holly Smyth (Mark); and 22 great nieces and nephews – all who were christened with nicknames from Tom.
Tom was known to all for his kindness, smile and gentle soul. He was an instant friend to anyone he met and leaves behind lifelong friends from Norton and from all his travels.
