Verna Louise Clifford

Verna Louise Clifford, 92, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 13, 2022.

Verna was born at home on Thursday, April 24, 1930 to the late Owen and Mary (West) Schrecengost in Boggs Township, Armstrong, PA. She married Parke on October 22, 1955 and they moved to the Norton area. She was a proud member of The Grace Church in Norton. Verna spent many years educating herself and others, with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Indiana Wesleyan University, retraining to specialize in elementary education at The University of Akron and then earned her Master's Degree in Education from Malone University. She taught for over 35 years in public school systems in Ohio, Hawaii, and Guam. Verna loved to travel, sing, and listen to music. She treasured the time she spent with family and friends, never passing up the opportunity for a Swenson's double cheeseburger. Her love of life, quick wit, and smile filled every room she entered.

In addition to her parents, Verna is preceded in death by her loving husband, Parke W. Clifford; brother, W. Earl (Jack) Schrecengost; sisters, Frances White, Jane Ferkan, Lucille Reedy, Aline John, and Mildred Haye, as well as many loving  nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday May 26 at 12 PM at Grace Church - Norton Campus, 3970 S Cleveland Massillon Rd, Barberton, OH 44203, with Pastors Dan Gregory and Bob Combs officiating.  Visitation will be held One Hour Prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Verna's memory to Haven of Rest Ministries and the Macular Degeneration Society.

Mrs. Clifford was my 4th grade teacher many years ago at Clinton Elementary (I also had Mr. Clifford for 6th grade at W.S. Stinson School). She was one of my all time favorite teachers, she made learning fun. I remember her telling stories of the time she taught in Hawaii, and played the ukulele for us and taught us the song "Tiny Bubbles" in Hawaiian. She will greatly missed.

Dear sweet Verna~
God gave us almost 70 years to love you as part of our family.
You were kind, generous, and witty even as age began taking its toll on all of our lives.
Follower of Jesus!
Beloved wife, aunt,sister-in-law, daughter, friend, teacher, and mentor.
We miss you so much!
Thank you, Lord, for giving us Verna for this long. Another reason heaven is drawing us to it-is to be with you forever!

I knew Verna and Parke when I was growing up in Springfield Township. She was just the nicest Christian lady. Loved her smile and loving spirit.

Oh, we will miss Aunt Verna! So many fond memories -- conversation, laughter, cats, singing, paintings and ukulele! So loved time spent with her!

Verna was a bright light in my life ~ in spite of all her frailties she never lost her sense of humor or her wonderful laughter!! I love her even now!

Verna was one of the sweetest, kindest persons I have ever known. She was always smiling, even in her later years when her health made life difficult.

She and Parke made quite the team. A true love story that I was honored to witness right to the end of Parke’s life.

I’m rejoicing in the knowledge that she and Parke are reunited and are experiencing the Joy of being in Jesus’ presence right now.

Oh, Verna! How I love you and will miss you. ❤️
