William "Bill" Walter

William (Bill) Walter, 86, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2021, surrounded by his family. Bill was born March 20, 1935, in Greensburg, Ohio, to the late Blake and Rose Walter. He was a boiler-maker at PPG and retired with 43 years of service, where he was known as “Red.” Bill also volunteered as a firefighter at PPG and the Metro Parks for 17 years. He was also a mason with Victory Lodge #649. Bill loved boating, woodworking, biking, hiking.

Bill was a great man with a heart of gold. His kindness could be felt by everyone, and his smile always brought joy to those around him. Wherever Bill went, laughter and happiness would follow. His family will always cherish the memories they made with him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of 64 years; sons, Craig, Dave, Steve (Rosann) Walter; brother, Virgil (Billie); brother-in-law, Earl (Noreen); sister-in-law, Karen (Robert); ten grandchildren, Angela, Matt, Mark, Evan, Erik, Jessica, J.C., Paige, Zach, Nick; and four great-grandchildren, Aubree, Parker, Luke, and Theo, who is on the way; all of whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Bacher Moore Funeral Home at 3326 Manchester Rd. Akron, OH 44319, with a Masonic service at 5:30 p.m. Private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held at Mount Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to a charity of your choice.
