William John Hawthorn Sr., 86, loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Monday, June 5, 2023 surrounded by his family.

John was born Saturday, May 29, 1937 to the late George and Madalyn (Wilson) Hawthorn and lived in New Franklin. He graduated from Copley High School, class of 1955, attended Akron University, retired as a Mission Director for LOCC Missions and was a faithful member of Canal Fulton Church of the Nazarene.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Jane Harsh and Druzilla Sue Beers; and brother, Bruce Ellsworth Hawthorn.  He is survived by his wife, Connie Hawthorn; daughters, Norma (Gordon) Mull and Mary Ellen Hawthorn; sons, William John, Jr. and George  Hawthorn; stepsons, Jason and Anthony (Katie) Shinn; grandchildren, Jennifer Mumford, Madalyn Hawthorn, Brandon (Kim) Mull, George (Tiffany) Hawthorn, Joshua Hawthorn, Anthony Shinn, Jr., Ian Shinn; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Cunningham, Mason Burkhart, Makenzie Mull, Avery Mull, Jaxson Hawthorn, Levi Hawthorn, Jace William Hawthorn; and many other loving family and friends.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Bacher-Moore Funeral Home (Norton), 3250 Greenwich Road, Norton, Ohio 44203.  Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2023, 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the funeral home.  William's final resting place will be Clinton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yvrose Pierre Alexandre Orphanage in Jeremie, Haiti, C/O Canal Fulton Church of the Nazarene, 771 Cherry Street E, Canal Fulton, Ohio 44614. The Orphanage was established by John’s father, Rev. George Hawthorn.
